Kaitlyn opens the episode saying this week has been the most draining week ever. After last week’s episode, I’m obliged to agree. Regardless, I’m ready for a new, exciting, and dramatic week. Stressed out Kaitlyn takes Ben H. on a one-on-one date on a rowboat. Ben is adorable and makes the date fun and cute and he plays hide and go seek with her in a beautiful Irish castle thing. Kaitlyn tells Ben that he is husband material, and they have one of the best conversations I’ve seen this season. Ben confesses that he fears he in unlovable, which is so sad and also so wrong. If Ben doesn’t get picked, #BenForBachelor.
Kaitlyn decides to be a jerk when Ben tells her that he can’t wait to stay up all night and talk with her. She takes this comment to mean that he is a virgin, and seems super turned off. I really don’t want to sit here and slut-shame the girl, but seriously Kaitlyn? Why would does it matter? Ben is not a virgin, if you were curious. This scene was aggravating. Moving on…
The next group date is Shawn, Nick, and Joe. Shawn pulls Kaitlyn away first for some quality time. I like them together, but I think it’s because I’m not really crazy about either of them. Nick interrupts before Kaitlyn can finally admit her mistake to Shawn. He says that this rose would mean a lot to him because he has had by far the least time with Kaitlyn. Considering he stole time away from a bunch of other guys- deal with it. Her conversation with Joe is good, but awkward. He tells her that he loves her and she replies, “that’s flattering.” Oh…ouch. Kaitlyn lets him go on the date and tells him to do whatever he needs to do. Kaitlyn, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
That evening, Kaitlyn pulls Shawn aside and tells him that she let things go too far with Nick. I respect her for telling him this way. She feels like they are incredibly close, and she knows that trust means a lot to him. However, I can’t imagine how this feels for him. He’s not very good at being on The Bachelorette. He’s not good at sharing. He takes this news surprisingly well though, and it seems like he is going to continue to make the most out of the situation. He still won’t say Nick’s name though. He’s still “The Other Guy” to Shawn.
There is no cocktail party this week. Kaitlyn has made up her mind and we go straight into a rose ceremony where three guys will stay move on to the fantasy suite. Her hair looks great at the rose ceremony. I want her stylist. Anyway, the first rose goes to Shawn, who pulls her aside and says he has to talk to her. She’s terrified. Good for Shawn though. He’s telling her that he has always been honest about The Other Guy and genuinely asks her why. She tells him that she is here to explore other relationships, because at the end of this she won’t be exploring anymore. Suuuuuure, Kaitlyn. That’s how The Bachelorette always works out. I guess good for her for being optimistic. Shawn accepts the rose. The next two go to Ben and Nick. Bye, Cube.
Kaitlyn’s date with Nick is first. They go church because lol. For most of their date we just see Shawn being angry about The Other Guy. This season is getting a little old. After an awkward conversation in a prison about Nick and honesty and game strategy, Kaitlyn gives Nick the key to the fantasy suite…which is not a jail cell. They had a comfortable and casual evening eating chocolate on the coach. It took last night for Kaitlyn to really realize that she can see a future with Nick. Shawn is still on edge, however. One of the last things we see in this episode is him knocking on Nick’s door. I almost feel bad for Nick, because Shawn kind of attacks him and freaks out. It’s very unnecessary. Until next week…
What do YOU think? Should Kaitlyn have done hometown dates before the fantasy suite? Is Shawn terrifying and clingy? Is Nick the good guy? What’s going on?!
Also, fellow reader, my blog might be on time or in existence at all next week. I will be in Washington DC next week, celebrating the country that gave us this amazing show.
