Here we go! One last episode on Kaitlyn’s Bachelorette journey – tonight the guys meet her family and she picks which dude she loves more. The episode opens with Kaitlyn talking to her family, who are all incredibly surprised to learn that Nick and Shawn hate each other. Kaitlyn’s mom, Leslie, is a little shocked that Nick is one of her daughter’s final two men. Nick is first to meet Kaitlyn’s family. He sported a greasy beard and a denim shirt. Leslie calls Nick out for being possessive and creepy last season, and I don’t blame her. However, she doesn’t know that Shawn is the new Nick. Poor Leslie. Nick won her over though, and she and Kaitlyn’s father both gave him their blessing. Shawn brought Kaitlyn’s family gifts and they were all very excited about it. After dinner, Leslie calls Shawn out about his jealously. I think she just got the vibe from him, because it was the first thing that she decided to bring up with him. His answers were candid and respectful, and he kept it together. Good for Shawn! Kaitlyn’s sister is Team Shawn, even after being Team Nick for a year. Her parents like him as well, and give Shawn their blessing as well. I know it’s a television show, and the most dramatic season of it at that, but I don’t like that. Don’t give two men your blessing to marry your daughter. That will most definitely end in heartbreak.
Nick and Kaitlyn spend an afternoon on a sailboat for their final date of the season. They’re happy and I think they look like a couple in love. Nick tells Kaitlyn that he has a present for her in his bedroom, which is a horribly creepy thing to say, but he ends up giving her a beautiful picture of them and a lovely handwritten note. Cue the ovaries of every lady in America exploding with joy. I think this gift was eye opening for Kaitlyn and it will help her realize her feelings, be them in Nick’s favor or not.
Shawn and Kaitlyn go on a picnic at a vineyard. Still, all Shawn can think about is Nick. All Kaitlyn can think about is Nick. They both seem a little off and a bit distracted. Kaitlyn described her date as “awkward and uncomfortable” in a testimonial. Shawn assures her though that he is a man of his word and that he will protect her. I still have a red flag up for him because of the first week. I just can’t get on board with either of these men. At the end of their date, Shawn gives Kaitlyn a jar of memories of their dates throughout the season.
The men pick their rings with Neil Lane, and it’s just another reminder of why I prefer The Bachelor. It just makes a whole lot more sense to me for one man to pick out a ring. It’s a lot less painful. Kaitlyn arrives at the mansion and I feel nervous for her. She looks like she is going to puke and I don’t blame her. Nick arrives first at the mansion. He pours his heart out and starts to propose – she stops him. It is incredibly painful. Nick (and America) is very confused. The conversation is lasting a lot longer than it needs to, I think. I would much prefer this being a private conversation that they have later. I’m really not looking forward to him saying “how could you make love to me if you don’t love me” on the After The Final Rose special.
Now that Nick has left and taken off his Claddagh ring in anger, it’s Shawn’s turn to meet Kaitlyn at the mansion. She happily greets him with a kiss and lets him gush over her for a bit using every cliché in the book. She returns his love with mushy words of her own. La la la Shawn and Kaitlyn happily ever after. They love each other. The season is DONE AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR BEN H. TO BE THE BACHELOR!!!
Who’s Gonna Last? (My predictions, not spoilers.)
Well I think I did pretty well with my predictions. Did you see Shawn going this far? Had I known Nick was going to stay, I would have added him to the list, but thankfully that’s all over now. I hope he’s learned his lesson and stays away from the next Bachelorette.
I’m sorry that I got a bit lazy with this blog towards the end. I think we had a good run though. I think I may like to try it again in January (which I still call Juanuary because it was brilliant advertising) with The Bachelor. Until then, I’ll be posting every now and then here, and I may do some stuff with Rabble.tv. Stay tuned!
