Last night’s episode opened not only with JoJo standing on a balcony thinking about her journey, but also with her bachelors standing on a balcony yelling her name. Both were truly beautiful moments. Before Chris comes and delivers the date card, the guys are sitting around and talking about their first night in the house. James F. says that he doesn’t think that there are any jerks in the house. His statement is quickly proven to be false because Chad is a huge jerk.
The first group date is for Luke, Grant, Will, Evan, Daniel, Vinny, Ali, James F., Robby, and Wells. The guys walked outside to find a limo on fire. They all acted very calm about this and wondered if JoJo was inside, but did nothing beyond that. JoJo was not in the limo, but instead on a firetruck. As she put out the limo fire, all of the men realized that they were here for the right reasons. The activity for the group date was a relay-like challenge where the men would dress up like firefighters and perform certain tasks in 80 degree weather. This was hard for everyone but Grant, who does this for a living. It was no shock that Grant won the challenge and therefore some extra time with JoJo. Most of the guys were angry about this because it meant that they didn’t get to spend time with her. Welcome to a group date, boys. In the end, Wells received the group date rose. I think a large part of this was probably the fact that he almost passed out during the date and had the medical team called on him.Back at home, all of the guys wrote a song about JoJo. I can’t be quite sure of the lyrics, but it went a little something like, “J-J-J-Jo Jo Jo Jo Jo Jo Jo Jo.” I smell a Grammy for James Taylor! Of course, not all the guys joined in the singalong. Chad was very much against it, stating that he’s not going to sing a song for a girl he just met. Instead, he strapped his suitcase to himself and did pull-ups. To each his own. The date card came and rewarded Derek with the first one-on-one.
JoJo and Derek’s date was all about choices. First, they had to choose sea or sky, then North or South, then Golden Gate Bridge or Lombard Street. The ended up taking a private jet and having a picnic by the Golden Gate. It was a really nice looking date and a good one for two people who are just getting to know each other. After awkwardly summarizing their date to each other, they started to talk about past relationships. Derek talked a bit more than JoJo, given that we all saw how her last love played out. The conversation went well though- they seem to really like each other. Derek got a rose and they kissed under the fountain.
At the mansion, Chad and Daniel were talking about how much they don’t like the other guys. The guys were still singing their JoJo song. Chad told Daniel the advice that he always gives to girls, “stay away from nice guys.” He says that in the end, the nice guys end up being jerks and the jerks end up being nice. I don’t think I buy this given how Chad acted during the rest of the episode. He went on the group date with Jordan, Christian,
Saint Nick, James Taylor and Alex.
The guys met JoJo on the set of Sports Nation. The hosts are huge Bachelor fans, after all. Each of them had to perform a couple of different challenges before being power ranked. They had to demonstrate their best touchdown dance, propose (Week 2 , people!) to JoJo after a round of dizzy bats, and answer question at a press conference. After being asked what they loved about JoJo, all but one guy was able to come up with a nice answer. Chad (in a very honest but aggressive way) told everyone that he didn’t know yet. He had only known JoJo for a few days and he didn’t want to say he loved her after only knowing her from things he read on the internet. He said that he didn’t think the other guys were being very honest, and that they were acting like they had never seen a beautiful woman before. Chad has a great point, but Alex was right when he said that it’s The Bachelorette and he needs to know that it’s all kind of a joke. In the end, the boys were ranked as follows: 3. Alex, 2. Chad, and 1. James Taylor. I think that this was probably the only time that James Taylor was ever picked first for something involving sports, and he was very happy. At dinner, Chad tried to secure a rose with the first sob story of the season, but it ultimately went to James Taylor.
When it was time for the cocktail party, JoJo walked in with Chad and everyone was very confused about it. He said he was just getting some air outside, but he obviously knew that JoJo was going to arrive at the house and see him first. This was just the start of Chad’s drama that night. The rest of the guys were following him around and criticizing pretty much every move he made. I get it, he was acting like a jerk, but let him do it. Getting involved only makes you look like a jerk too. Shoutout to Chad though for taking advantage of all of the deli platters. You don’t usually see people eat on this show and I think that is all I would be doing. Other highlights from the party include Chase bringing a little bit of his home to JoJo and getting some fake snow to fall on them (a wonderful way to be noticed when you didn’t get a date that week) and Will toilet papering the house with JoJo (a horrible way to bond with an adult). Before JoJo went to hand out the roses, Chad took another piece of turkey and told Alex that he should be scared of him. Yikes!Week 2 roses went to Wells, Derek, James Taylor, Alex, Christian, Robby, Luke, Chase, Jordan, Grant, Ali, Daniel, James F., Nick, Vinny, Evan, and Chad. So we said goodbye to prankster Will, superfan James, and hipster Brandon. I will be back next Wednesday with my recap. Next week we get two episodes because all of the drama can’t be packed into one night. Exciting!
Who’s Gonna Last? (My predictions, not spoilers.)
So what do YOU think? Did JoJo pick the right guys for group date roses? Will Chad remain the villain? Will they ever perform their song for JoJo? Let me know in the comments!
