I love the hometown dates. I think they are more interesting, more fun, and a bit more real than the other dates throughout the season. Being a fan of everyone left this season, I was pretty excited to see what would happen on each of their hometown visits.
First, JoJo visited Chase in Colorado. Chase was very worried about what JoJo would think about the fact that his parents went through a nasty divorce. It is definitely possible that this divorce affected Chase in an extremely negative way, but it is also possible that he wanted some sympathy out of JoJo. Either way, his date went really well. I think it was the most successful hometown date of the bunch, due to the lack of drama and the connection with the family. After a picnic in the mountains and a meeting with Chase’s dad, JoJo went to his mom’s house and met the rest of the family. Let me tell you, I would watch an entire season of Chase’s mom. She could be the American Idol, The Bachelorette, or the sole Survivor. I don’t care. Sandy was awesome. She is exactly how you would want your boyfriend’s mom to act when you were meeting her for the first time. After Chase’s tears with his dad following his declaration that he is diving into this relationship from here on out, I think JoJo saw a new side of him that she needed to see. Each week my #TeamChase allegiance grows stronger.
Next, JoJo went to California to visit
Aaron Jordan. She was so excited about this date that she about peed her pants when she saw a deer on the way to his house. Jordan took her by his old high school before they went and met his parents. I think that these two are a very convincing couple. Their banter back and forth seems very natural and effortless. I thought it was cute when they saw a prom poster and Jordan asked if he would go with her. It was awkward, however, that she seemed to keep bringing the conversation back to his brother, Aaron. Even after he said that it wasn’t something he really wanted to talk about, she still searched for answers. I get it, to some extent. You want to know why this guy who could possibly be your husband doesn’t have anything to do with his brother. But, would you be as curious if he wasn’t a professional football player? In Bachelor Nation, it’s hard to tell.
Robby started his date off by telling us that what he is looking for today from JoJo is for her to tell him that she loves him. Hey Robby, she’s not Ben. I think perhaps she learned from him that it’s best to not tell people that you love them before the final rose ceremony. My other issue with Robby’s date is that it started with a horse-drawn carriage ride. Maybe that’s the greatest way to see St. Augustine, FL, but maybe he is just trying really hard to impress her. Yes, the other hometown dates brought people together in a way that they might not do everyday, but they still kept things natural, whereas Robby’s felt rehearsed. The real drama came when Robby’s mom told him that his ex-girlfriend’s roommate had been spreading rumors that Robby only broke up with that girlfriend to go on The Bachelorette. When he told JoJo about this, she worried that maybe there was truth to it because they had only been broken up for three months when the show started. Hey JoJo, when did you break up with Ben again? Anyway, after lots of emotions and convincing, Robby weaseled his way out of the situation and shared a kiss with JoJo in the rain before she left.
Luke’s hometown date was really nice. He brought all of his friends and family together to have a picnic and play games. JoJo seemed immediately comfortable and really glad to be back in Texas. Like her and Jordan, she and Luke seem to also be very natural together, and I can easily see her fitting in well with the people Luke is close to. After she got to know the family for a bit, Luke led her to a little couch made out of hay that seemed very uncomfortable. He told her the usual stuff- how he was so glad that she was there and got to meet the people who mean the most to him. He was also very glad that they cowboy boots he got her fit. His last surprise for her was really stinking cute. He led her to a heart made out of rose petals and highlighted with candles. The Bachelor interns did a really good job with that one.
At the rose ceremony, JoJo said she knew what she had to do and threw a curveball at all of us. She was getting ready to give out the roses to everyone but Luke, when he asked if he could pull her aside. In what was the best timing possible for him, he told her that he loved her, and that he should have said so back in Texas. This put a wrench in JoJo’s plans because now that everyone has said that they love her, there isn’t an obvious choice for who she should send home. If you haven’t guessed already, this ended in the dreaded To Be Continued. However, I’m not too angry. Next week we get the dramatic conclusion, as well as Men Tell All. How exciting!
Who’s Gonna Last? (My predictions, not spoilers.)
So, what do YOU think? Is Robby sketchy? Who will JoJo send home in this rose ceremony? Will Chad give Evan a new shirt on Men Tell All? Is Sandy the coolest lady ever? Let me know in the comments!
